Getting to Hossegor from the UK & Ireland

Two airports, a scenic train and a ferry option โ€” the Atlantic coast is closer than you think.

Hossegor sits on the Landes coast of South West France, about 35 minutes south of Bordeaux's beaches and just north of Biarritz and the Basque Country. For visitors from Britain and Ireland it's an easy hop โ€” here's how to plan the journey.

The quick answer

Fly into Biarritz if you can (it's the closest, around 35 minutes away) or into Bordeaux for the widest choice of flights, then hire a car. Biarritz is best in summer; Bordeaux works year-round and from far more UK and Irish airports.

By air

Biarritz (BIQ) โ€” the closest airport, ~35 min

Biarritz is the nearest airport and the quickest transfer to the villa. Direct flights are largely seasonal (roughly late spring to autumn), which suits a summer holiday perfectly:

Bordeaux (BOD) โ€” the widest choice, ~1h30

A little further (about 1h30โ€“1h45 by car), but with year-round flights from across the UK and Ireland โ€” ideal for spring, autumn or a regional departure:

Tip: routes and frequencies change with the season. Compare both airports on Skyscanner or Google Flights for your dates โ€” Biarritz for the shortest transfer, Bordeaux for choice and price.

By train (low-carbon option)

Take the Eurostar from London to Paris, then a TGV to Bordeaux and a regional train (TER) to Dax or Bayonne. Dax is about 25โ€“30 minutes from Hossegor by taxi or transfer. It's a full day of travel, but comfortable and far greener than flying.

By ferry & car

Bringing the family, bikes, surfboards or the dog? Brittany Ferries sails from Portsmouth or Plymouth to Bilbao or Santander in northern Spain, leaving a scenic drive of roughly 1h45โ€“2h30 north to Hossegor. Alternatively, cross via the Eurotunnel or Dover and drive down โ€” around 9โ€“10 hours from Calais.

Getting around once you're here

A car is recommended: the villa is in a quiet residential setting, and you'll want the freedom to reach the beaches, the lake, local markets and Capbreton's port. Car hire is available at both airports. For shorter trips, the flat cycle paths through the pine forest are a joy โ€” bikes get you to the beach without ever touching the road.
